African Dawn
£20.00This piece is part of the Flexi-Collection – World Tour Series and embraces the sounds and imagery of a tribal group out singing on a remote hill top (where a phrase is sung and response given by the group). This is effectively recreated by soloists around the band playing and responding. There are also opportunities to spread lots of percussion throughout the band and/or have players clapping the separate rhythms to bring forth the African atmosphere. A great interactive showcase piece. Each part includes a rudimentary theory reference sheet and Learn Together Moments for group warm-ups; the score also includes background information and Check It Out ideas to encourage the players to find out more.

The work is a perfect example of the Kenneth Downie’s renowned creativity and stylish handling of melody and harmony.

£20.00Eb Bass/Tuba solo with Piano, Timpani and 2 percussion accompaniment. Although written in a contemporary style and using the full range of the Tuba, it does not make as many demands in terms of stamina as much of the modern repertoire. This, together with the unusual and colourful scoring, therefore make it an ideal recital piece when placed between more conventional works.

BBA March
£18.95This is a concert march with a difference! The whole of the first section is in minor mode – unusual and intended to depict the trials and tribulations which inspired the original (and now successfully completed) Africa-based projects of Brass Band Aid. The Trio then goes into the major and begins with a Prayer motif that starts with the notes B-B-A. Following a rather turbulent episode (a reminder that there is still much to do), the Prayer theme returns triumphantly, reflecting optimism for the future. The work was created in response to a charitable CD fund-raising project, and the recording by the Wingates Band was featured on the final CD – Into Africa.
